ODL is one of the doorglass lines we install in our entry door slabs. Decorative inserts, plain Low-E and clear, in the sizes our slabs are cut for.

About ODL

Doorglass since 1945.

ODL is a third generation, family owned company headquartered in Zeeland, Michigan. It started as a cabinet shop in 1945, became Ottawa Door Lights in 1963, and now makes decorative and clear doorglass, enclosed blinds between glass, and doorglass frames across plants in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, including Valdosta, Georgia.

ODL is a doorglass line we install in the fiberglass and steel entries we prehang. Decorative, obscure, Low-E, impact rated, and blinds between glass, all in the insert sizes our fiberglass and steel slabs are cut for. Pick the glass on the door configurator in the Design Portal and it arrives installed in the door, not as a separate box.

Decorative glass Caming, textured, and beveled designs ODL's decorative collections: handcrafted glass with brass, nickel, patina, or black chrome caming, clear bevel clusters, and textured backgrounds. Clear and Low-E Clear, Low-E, and privacy textures Plain clear and Low-E insulated glass for openings that want light without a pattern, plus privacy textures like Rain, Reeded, Micro-Granite, and Satin Etch. Low-E is available across the clear and textured lines.
Privacy rating Low, medium, high, and maximum Every ODL design carries a privacy rating so you can tell a homeowner what they will see through the glass before it is built. From clear, through medium textures, to full obscure.
Construction Two panes of tempered glass, sealed Two panels of tempered safety glass, insulated and thermally sealed for an air and water tight unit, inside a frame sized to the lite. Impact rated units pair laminated exterior glass with a tempered interior pane.
Frames Paintable, stainable, and impact frames Frame profiles in paint ready white and paint or stain ready tan, in flush and raised styles to match the door. Impact rated uPVC and aluminum frames are available for coastal jobs, certified to Florida Building Code DP requirements.
Grilles and blinds GBG, SDL, and Blinds + Glass Grilles between the glass in white or black, simulated divided lite bars in narrow and wide profiles, and Blinds + Glass with the blind sealed inside the unit. All quoted per lite in the Design Portal.
Sizes Half, three-quarter, and full lite Insert sizes matched to the slab cutouts we run, plus sidelite and transom sizes. Send the rough opening and we will configure the lite to it.
Installation Set in our shop The slab comes down our line, the insert goes in and is sealed, and the door unit is built around it. Checked before it is staged, so it arrives ready to install. We hang it at Tucker.

Blinds between the glass.

The blind is sealed inside the insulated glass unit, so it never needs dusting and there is no cord hanging in the opening. The homeowner works it with a slider on the frame. It is the ODL option dealers ask for by name.

01 Nothing to dust, nothing to snag The blind lives inside the sealed unit. It does not collect dust, it cannot be bent by a pet, and there is no cord for a child to reach.
02 Light and privacy on one control Tilt the slats or raise the blind with a slider on the frame. The homeowner sets the room without adding a window treatment.
03 Doors and windows both Door lites for entry and patio doors, and window units for the openings around them, so one house reads consistently.
04 Ordered as glass, not as a treatment It ships installed in the door we hang, so nothing gets fitted on site after the fact.

Impact rated doorglass.

Coastal and high wind openings need glass that carries an approval. ODL builds impact rated doorglass on laminated glass in an impact rated frame, so the coastal job gets the same glass design as the inland one.

The glass Laminated impact glass An interlayer bonded between the lites holds the glass together when something hits it, so the opening stays closed.
The frame Keystone uPVC Their impact rated frame is lightweight uPVC, lighter and easier to install than metal, and certified to a design pressure of plus or minus 60 PSF.
The look Same designs, rated Clear, privacy, and decorative options carry through, so the coastal job does not have to settle for a plain lite.
The paperwork Approval driven Every rated opening is quoted against its wind zone. Send us the zone and the opening and we will come back with what is approved for it.

What dealers ask us.

Yes. A replacement insert can be ordered on its own. Fit depends on the existing cutout and frame, so send your rep the door make, lite size, and a photo of the current frame before ordering. We will confirm whether the new insert will seat correctly.

Usually the whole door. We buy the ODL insert, run the slab down our line, install it, and build the unit, so you order one unit and receive one unit.

Both. Decorative inserts are the caming, beveled, and textured designs in the ODL catalog. Plain is clear or Low-E, with privacy textures in between. Every option prices live in the Design Portal.

The insert sizes our slabs are cut for, in half lite, three-quarter lite, full lite, and sidelite. Send the opening and we will tell you what fits.

Yes. Same pattern, sized for the sidelite, installed at the same time so the pair leaves together.

HVHZ, High Velocity Hurricane Zone, applies only to Miami-Dade and Broward counties in Florida and requires the most rigorous impact and wind testing. WBDR, Wind Borne Debris Region, covers a broader coastal area and requires impact resistant doors and windows or shutters, but to slightly less strict standards than HVHZ.

In many coastal zones that see severe weather, building code requires impact rated products in home and commercial construction. They keep the structure standing, keep debris and water out of it, and protect the people inside.

They are certified to Florida building codes and carry Texas Department of Insurance approvals, two markets that set a high bar for impact rated products. Components are tested both on their own and as part of a system.

HVHZ and WBDR certified fiberglass doors in 6'8" and 8'0", plus impact rated doorglass and doorglass frames in metal and composite. They are designed to withstand wind speeds up to 140 mph. The Keystone uPVC frame is certified to a design pressure of plus or minus 60 PSF.
